Former soviet air force base. After soviet collapse airfield was abandoned and generally was not used for aviation activities. The original runway was 2500m long, however the last 500m together with some taxiways were dismantled. Jekabpils was home to the Soviet Navy with 886 ORAP (886th Independent Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment), flying Su-17 and Su-24MR aircraft. Recently the airfield reconstruction has been started by a group of enthusiasts. Runway and taxiway markings have been introduced, as well as a couple of windsocks have been placed. Western part of the RWY (718x18m) is marked with threshold and centerline signs, and is in a good condition.
